About MMCMISSION STATEMENTThe Madison Music Collective is a non-profit organization that encourages and promotes jazz and other improvised music in the Madison area. The Collective aims to present this music to a broader audience -- without compromising artistic integrity or creativity - by providing performance opportunities in respectful settings, through education, and by fostering a community of musicians and listeners. OUR AIMSWe are working to build a thriving creative music community in the Greater Madison area, by growing the local audience for jazz and other forms of improvised music … by helping audience members deepen their understanding of and appreciation for this challenging, rewarding, and most American art form … by increasing performance opportunities for creative musicians, so the ones we already have will stay and so like-minded musicians will want to move here …by challenging our local musicians to stretch themselves artistically … by encouraging them to collaborate with artists from other disciplines, whose paths might not otherwise cross, to create new and engaging works. WHAT WE DOWe promote a wide stylistic range of music, ranging from the jazz mainstream to the avant-garde. We offer a seasonal series of concerts and educational programs, Fall through Spring, in venues that are respectful to performer and audience. And, twice yearly, we sponsor a concert featuring a nationally known jazz artist in a major local venue like the Wisconsin Union Theater and the Overture Center WHO WE AREWe are an all-volunteer, nonprofit membership organization comprised of musicians and listeners who share a passion for jazz and other forms of improvised music. All the work that goes into producing and publicizing our concerts is performed by volunteers, and you can help us maintain and enhance our programming by joining the corps of Music Collective volunteers. Please review the tasks and positions listed on the Volunteer Opportunities page and contact us if you are interested or have questions. BOARD OF DIRECTORS
