ABOUT LUKE POLIPNICK

Before moving to Omaha in summer 2012, guitarist Luke Polipnick was an influential member of Madison’s “free jazz” scene, as co-leader of the cutting-edge production group Surrounded by Reality.  Mr. Polipnick put together a new quartet with musicians from New York City (drummer Mike Pride) and the Twin Cities (saxophonist Brandon Wozniak and bassist Adam Linz).  In Madison, the group performed new music composed by Mr. Polipnick especially for their Midwest tour.  He described the music as having thematic material from folksy to rocking but rooted in jazz, and appealing to fans of “post rock,” free improvisation, and mainstream jazz.

BRANDON WOZNIAK (saxophone)

Brandon Wozniak is a saxophonist based in Minneapolis, MN and a member of the following bands: Dave King Trucking Company, Wailing Ships, Atlantis Quartet, Bryan Nichols Quintet, Parker Paisley, Chris Bates Quintet and from time to time a few others. Brandon studied music at Indiana University and then moved to New York to listen and practice for 6 years while trying to forget everything he learned at college. Brandon was once in a German rock band and lived in Berlin Germany for seven months trying to pay off his student loans playing rock shows. That didn't work but Brandon had a great time in Berlin. Brandon then moved to Shanghai China to play jazz in clubs and hotels where he got to sample many fine cigars through second hand smoke. Brandon has lived and worked in Minneapolis since 2006 and hopes to continue playing music forever.

ADAM LINZ (bass)

Adam is a well-known bass player in the Twin Cities jazz scene. He co-leads the internationally award-winning group Fat Kid Wednesdays with childhood friends Mike Lewis and JT Bates, touring extensively throughout Europe and North America. Adam has taught at Macalester College, Augsburg College, Minnesota Institute for Talented Youth and EDAM Music outreach in Paris, and has given clinics in places such as Chile, Argentina, Seattle, New York, Houston, Germany, and Switzerland. Adam has performed with such jazz greats as Evan Parker, Stanley Turretine, Milt Jackson and electronic artist, Dosh. He has a Bachelor of Music from the William Paterson University Jazz Studies program.

MIKE PRIDE (drums/percussion)

Based in New York for the past decade, Mike Pride currently leads the quartet, From Bacteria To Boys, who record for AUM Fidelity Records. Pride is renowned worldwide for his ability to excel in a wide range of genres and ensembles. He has worked with everyone from improvised music icon Anthony Braxton to punk legends Millions Of Dead Cops, toured extensively on four continents and appeared on more than 75 recordings. A short list of his collaborators includes Boredoms, Califone, Eugene Chadbourne, Chinese pop-star Priscilla Chan, Nels Cline, Trevor Dunn, Milford Graves, Mary Halvorson, Curtis Hasselbring, Jon Irabagon, Haino Keiji’s Fushitsusha, George Lewis, Bill McHenry, Tony Malaby, Ikue Mori, Butch Morris, Joe Morris, Marc Ribot, Matana Roberts, Jamie Saft, Chris Speed, Jason Stein, Otomo Yoshihide and John Zorn. Pride’s versatility doesn’t end with his eclectic résumé as a popular sideman and leader/co-leader of eight active ensembles spanning the worlds of blues, modern-jazz, avant-rock and doom metal improv. He is also a busy educator and clinician, a soundtrack composer for TV, video games and independent films, and an experienced painter, cartoonist and photographer.
